Weekend in Photos: December 8-10

This weekend was long anticipated after a week of work, and it was the resurgence of some Christmas hygge feelings.

Friday

Friday is one of the standard days I work out, so we started at the gym after work finished for the week. Rachel and I were starving after our workout. We had a dinner planned but it didn’t seem appetizing, so we had the idea to go out for dinner. Our first choice place was packed, so we headed to Jack Astor’s. I got a Fishbowl Mango Sunrise which was totally worth the price tag…delicious and lasted all through dinner. We also got their Cheesy Garlic Loaf which is an amazing entree. I had a burger for dinner, but it was eclipsed by these two delicious starters.

I’ve had a problem with impulse eating, or when I decide to eat something other than planned. It’s been a barrier to my fitness goals, and so far I haven’t found a way to stop doing this. I’m hoping as I see more success at the gym, I’ll be less tempted to venture from my carefully planned path of delicious healthiness.

Saturday

Saturdays are typically busy days for us, but we slept in later than usual. Rachel was working evenings all weekend and we wanted to soak up as much time together as possible. We had family time in bed (me, Rachel, Felix and Fiona, our cats) and did some things around the house. Rachel made latkes and mini omelettes for a delicious breakfast. One of my tasks was to water our succulent family. I always love watching the water drip down those beauties!

We headed to the gym again on Saturday, and spent some time together at home. When Rachel headed to work, I spent some time playing Skyrim before watching The Office on Netflix and eventually heading to bed when Rachel returned home.

Sunday

Sunday morning was also relaxing. We headed out to our favourite vintage market, Duck and Dodo. We’ve been loyal customers and always enjoy hunting around for new finds. On this trip, we found some cool pins for my backpack (you can see them on my instagram), a bracelet for Rachel, a gift for my Mom, and three milk glass vases for in front of the sink. I’m hoping to talk about these soon in a post about my interior design interests.

We then headed out to our favourite cafe, Black Walnut, for an afternoon treat. We tried their hot chocolate which was frothy and delicious without being too sweet. Rachel quickly ate a slice of carrot cake, which is a standby favourite for both of us. I tried their orange raspberry upside down cake, which was beautiful to look at.

The snow started coming in over Saturday and Sunday, and we had plenty of cuddle time near our Christmas tree with some tea. Picture this: sitting on your comfy couch in your PJs, a glass of tea in hand, maybe a plate of cookies if you get hungry. It’s dark and snowing outside, but the apartment is warm and the Christmas lights intensify the cozy. What a perfect hygge feeling!  I love these joyful moments!

Final Thoughts

I’ve often felt that my weekends slip away from me. Writing this post helps me to focus on those bright spots of light in my life, and I’m very grateful for this idea (which I’ve seen on many blogs). Perhaps this will be a weekly tradition!

With the snow falling this weekend, my Christmas excitement is growing. I’m already planning out what I want to do with my week off over the holiday, and looking forward to seeing my family. The snow is expected to continue this week, so I’m hoping that joy will spread. Next weekend, we are going to the Toronto Christmas Market which we went to last year, and I’m very much looking forward to it!

Thanks for keeping up with me!
